How to see when a house was first listed on Rightmove

Short answer

A Rightmove listing shows “Added on” with a date until its price changes. After that it shows “Reduced on” instead, and the original date is gone. To find when a home was really first listed, check its timeline on Zoopla, look for an old copy of the listing on the Wayback Machine, ask the agent, or use Kerblist, which shows “Listed 3 months ago” on every Rightmove search result.

Why the date disappears

Rightmove gives each listing a single line of history. A new home says “Added on 22/09/2026”. When the price is cut, that line changes to “Reduced on 14/10/2026”. From then on, nothing on the page tells you the home first went on sale in, say, June.

There’s a second trap: a home taken off the market and put back on, or moved to a different agent, gets a fresh “Added on” date. It looks brand new, even if it has been for sale for months. This is called re-listing.

How to find the real date

  1. Check Zoopla. Find the same home on Zoopla (match the street and photos). Its listing page has a Property timeline that starts with the month it was listed, followed by every price change.
  2. Try the Wayback Machine. Paste the Rightmove listing address into web.archive.org. If the page was saved earlier, the old copy shows the date and price at the time. It’s hit and miss: most listings are never saved.
  3. Ask the agent. “When did it first go on the market, including any earlier listings or other agents?” is a fair question, and the answer tells you a lot.
  4. Use Kerblist. Rightmove’s search pages already contain each home’s first-listed date; they just don’t show it once the home is reduced. Kerblist reads that date and shows it on every search result as “Listed 3 months ago”, next to “Reduced 2 days ago”. If a home comes back with a newer date than one Kerblist has already seen, it’s marked “Re-listed”.

Why it’s worth knowing

Time on the market is one of the few clues you get about a seller’s position. A home that has been for sale for months, or has been reduced or re-listed, may have a seller who is more open to offers, or a problem other buyers spotted. Either way, it’s a good reason to ask questions before you view.

Questions

Why can’t I see when a Rightmove listing was added?

Rightmove shows “Added on” with a date until the price changes. After a reduction the line says “Reduced on” with the new date instead, so the original listing date is no longer shown.

What does re-listed mean?

A home that is taken off the market and put back on, or moved to a new agent, gets a fresh “Added on” date. It can look new even if it has been for sale for months.

Does it matter how long a house has been listed?

It can. A home that has been for sale for a long time, or has been reduced or re-listed, may have a seller who is more open to offers. It’s worth asking the agent why.
